Why Airwallex
If you operate in Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, or mainland China, Airwallex is usually cheaper and more relevant than Stripe because it supports local payment methods your customers actually use:
- 🇵🇭 GCash and Maya (Philippines)
- 🇭🇰🇨🇳 Alipay, WeChat Pay
- 🇲🇾 FPX, GrabPay
- International cards — Visa, Mastercard, Amex
You can run Airwallex *alongside* Stripe — Wemu presents all available methods to customers at checkout and routes to the right processor automatically.
Connect Airwallex
Navigate to: Settings → Integrations → Airwallex Connect
- If you don't have an Airwallex account yet, sign up at [airwallex.com](https://airwallex.com) first — takes ~2 days for business verification
- In Wemu, tap Connect with Airwallex
- Log in to your Airwallex account when redirected; grant Wemu permission to create payment intents
- Set which payment methods you want enabled (GCash / Maya / Alipay / etc.)
- Save
Use in the POS
Once connected, the POS checkout screen shows a QR payment option:
- Customer taps the QR method, app generates a QR
- Customer scans with their e-wallet app (GCash, Maya, Alipay, WeChat Pay)
- Payment authorises in seconds — POS auto-advances to the receipt
Use on the storefront
Online checkout automatically shows Airwallex methods alongside cards. Philippine customers see GCash + Maya; HK customers see Alipay + WeChat Pay; everyone sees their local wallet first.
Fees
Set per payment method on the Airwallex dashboard — typically 1.5-2.5% for cards, lower flat fees for wallets. No markup from Wemu.
