The walk-in queue & wait times

Customers join from a QR code, watch their place, and get a text when you're ready

Bookings and walk-ins, side by side

Some customers book ahead and some just walk in. The queue gives walk-ins a fair place in line and a live wait time, without anyone standing at the counter.

๐Ÿ“

Navigate to: Sidebar โ†’ Tasks โ†’ Queue (or go to /queue)

Setting it up

  1. Press Open queue
  2. Set Serving at once: the most staff who take walk-ins at the same time (1 to 6)
  3. Under Customer join link, press Print QR for a counter sign with your logo and the QR code, or Copy link to share it

Press Close queue when you stop taking walk-ins. The join page then asks people to see the counter.

How customers join

They scan the code (or open app.wemu.io/line/ followed by your page address), type their name and, if they want a text, their mobile. A live page shows their place in line and an estimated wait, and updates as the queue moves. They can leave the queue from that page.

With a mobile number, they get a text confirming their place, and another when you call them up. Texts use SMS credits.

Running the queue at the desk

  • Each new arrival rings the notification bell in Wemu, even if the queue isn't open on screen.
  • Add someone yourself with Add to queue.
  • People waiting have ๐Ÿ“ฒ You're up (sends their text; needs a phone number), Serving and Remove.
  • People you've called up move to Called up, with Serving and No-show.
  • Press Done when you've finished with someone. Recently finished shows the last few.

Returning customers are recognised

When someone joins with a phone number that matches a customer on file, the queue shows a Member badge and the visit is added to that customer's Activity.

How the wait is worked out

Each person in the queue counts as 15 minutes of work. Wemu adds up the minutes ahead of someone, divides by the staff serving, and rounds to the nearest 5 minutes.

The staff serving is how many of your team are clocked in, up to your Serving at once number. If fewer are clocked in, the queue says so and waits grow. If your team doesn't clock in, Wemu uses the Serving at once number.

Tip: Put the printed QR where people queue, and turn the queue on at the start of each busy period.

Ask Wemu AI: "who's waiting?", "add Jo to the queue" or "tell the next person they're up". It can also offer the next spot on a class waitlist. Each change needs a tap on Confirm, because some of them text the customer. See What Wemu AI can do.
