Why permissions matter
Not every team member needs access to everything. A cashier doesn't need to see financial reports. An instructor doesn't need to manage billing. Permissions let you control exactly what each person can view and do in the app.
Navigate to: Sidebar → Team → Permissions tab
Default role permissions
Wemu comes with three default roles, each with pre-configured permissions:
- Admin — Full access to all features including billing, settings, and team management
- Manager — Access to operations, reports, and team management but not billing or account settings
- Staff — Access to POS, their own bookings, and tasks relevant to their work
Customizing permissions
- Go to Team > Permissions
- Select a role to edit
- Toggle individual permissions on or off for each feature area:
- Products & Catalog
- Services & Bookings
- Orders & POS
- Invoicing
- Expenses
- Reports
- Team Management
- Settings
- Save the role

Feature-level permissions
For each feature area, you can typically control:
- View — Can they see the data?
- Create — Can they add new items?
- Edit — Can they modify existing items?
- Delete — Can they remove items?
For example, a staff member might be able to view and create orders but not delete them.
Per-member overrides
Beyond role-based permissions, you can set overrides for individual team members. This is useful when one person needs a bit more or less access than their role typically allows.
Tip: Start with the default roles and only customize when needed. Over-complicating permissions makes onboarding new staff harder and creates maintenance overhead.
POS-specific permissions
You can also control POS-specific actions:
- Applying discounts
- Processing refunds
- Opening the cash drawer
- Voiding transactions
These are critical for preventing unauthorized actions at the point of sale.
