Wemu POS

Barcode and QR scanning

Use the phone's camera to ring barcoded products without hunting in the grid

Where to find the scan button

In the POS home, the product search bar has a scan icon on the right (next to the clear button). Tap it — the camera opens full-screen with a corner-bracket viewfinder.

What it does

  • Point the camera at a product's barcode or QR
  • Unique SKU match — the product is added to cart instantly (same behaviour as tapping its tile, respects the stock cap)
  • No match — the raw scanned code drops into the search field so you can see partial matches, or realise the SKU isn't wired to any product yet

Supported formats

  • EAN-8 / EAN-13 — European retail barcodes
  • UPC-A / UPC-E — US retail barcodes
  • Code 128 / Code 39 — inventory labels, shipping codes
  • QR codes — for Wemu-generated product QRs or customer loyalty codes

Controls inside the scanner

  • Torch — toggle the flash on dark shelves
  • Camera flip — switch to front-facing (rarely useful, but some tablets have better front cameras)
  • Tap anywhere to dismiss without a scan

Linking a SKU to a product

If the scanner drops the code into the search bar with no match, the SKU isn't linked yet. To fix:

  1. Web dashboard → Products → pick the product
  2. Set the SKU or Barcode field to the exact code
  3. Save — the POS refreshes the catalog within 30 seconds

Generating barcodes in Wemu

Any product without a printed barcode can be assigned one from the web:

  1. Product detail → Barcode section → Generate
  2. Wemu mints a Code 128 barcode with a unique payload
  3. Print it from the same screen onto adhesive labels
